Specificity:

Mouse Anti-Human CD4 (Clone RPA-T4) recognizes Human CD4. This monoclonal antibody was purified using multi-step affinity chromatography methods such as Protein A or G depending on the species and isotype. Anti-Human CD4 recognizes a human surface glycoprotein (Mr 55-62 kDa) present on T-helper/inducer lymphocytes and monocytes.¹ Anti-CD4 blocks various immunoregulatory functions. There is indirect evidence that CD4 acts as a receptor for the invariant part of HLA Class II antigens. CD4 may also be the receptor for the AIDS virus.²

The CD4 antigen is present on the helper/inducer subset of T-lymphocytes. CD4 positive cells make up approximately 25-60% of normal peripheral blood lymphoctes and 80-90% of normal thymocytes. CD4 has also been shown to be present in low density on monocytes and intracellularly in monocytes and macrophages.

Background:

CD4 (cluster of differentiation 4) is a glycoprotein expressed on the surface of T helper cells, regulatory T cells, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 interacts with class II molecules of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) enhancing the signal for T-cell activation.¹

R-phycoerythrin (R-PE) has a molecular weight of 240 kDa and is purified from red algae. R-PE is an intensely bright phycobiliprotein with an absorption maxima at approximately 496, 546 and 565 nm, and a fluorescence emission maximum of ~578 nm.
