Description Background: Pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) is a glycoprotein hormone synthesized and secreted by specialized cells derived from the fetal trophoblast. The hormone is a unique member of the gonadotropin family in that it contains high levels of intrinsic Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) activity.1 PMSG is commonly used in concert with progestogen to induce ovulation in livestock prior to artificial insemination. PMSG tends to be used because of its longer circulatory half-life. Host Species Serum of pregnant mares Formulation Sterile Filtered white lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. Storage and Stability The lyophilized protein should be stored desiccated at -20°C. The reconstituted protein can be stored for at least one week at 4°C. For long-term storage of the reconstituted protein, aliquot into working volumes and store at -20°C in a manual defrost freezer. Avoid Repeated Freeze Thaw Cycles. Country of Origin USA References 1.
