Background:
Exendin-4 is an insulinotropic agent1 that is produced in the salivary gland of the Gila monster lizard. It induces insulin release through activation of the (Glucagon Like Peptide-1) GLP-12 and improves glucose tolerance.1 Exendin-4 stimulates the regeneration of the pancreas and expansion of beta-cell mass by processes of both neogenesis and proliferation of beta-cells.3 Exendin-4 is considered as a treatment for diabetes.2
