Description
Specificity:
Mouse Anti-Human CD4 (Clone Edu-2) recognizes Human CD4. This monoclonal antibody was purified using multi-step affinity chromatography methods such as Protein A or G depending on the species and isotype. This antibody reacts with a 60 kDa molecular weight lymphocyte surface antigen belonging to the CD4 cluster which functions as a receptor for MHC Class II and for HIV. The antigen is present on a subpopulation of peripheral blood T lymphocytes, some thymocytes and some malignant cells of T cell origin. Normal B lymphocytes, monocytes and granulocytes do not express surface CD4 antigen although cytoplasmic expression has been observed in monocytes/macrophages. The CD4 positive T lymphocyte subpopulation has been characterized functionally as comprising helper cells active in amplification of immune responses.
Antigen Distribution:
T cells (E+): 68 + 8%
Peripheral blood lymphocytes: 55 + 8%
Monocytes (weak): 25 + 15%
B cells (lg+): <1%
NK cells (CD16+): <1%
Granulocytes: <1%
Background:
CD4 (cluster of differentiation 4) is a glycoprotein expressed on the surface of T helper cells, regulatory T cells, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 interacts with class II molecules of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) enhancing the signal for T-cell activation.1
Reporter Molecule:
R-phycoerythrin (R-PE) has a molecular weight of 240 kDa and is purified from red algae. R-PE is an intensely bright phycobiliprotein with an absorption maxima at approximately 496, 546 and 565 nm, and a fluorescence emission maximum of ~578 nm.
