Immunoprecipitation (IP) is a technique that enables the small-scale isolation of proteins from a mixture. In IP, antibodies specific for a protein of interest are added to a lysate to form antibody/antigen complexes. These complexes are precipitated out of the sample using agarose resin or magnetic beads. Elution of the target protein allows for further analysis, such as ELISA and western blotting. IP can be used to isolate individual proteins or protein complexes, known as co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP).
