Background Group A streptococcus (GAS), also known as Streptococcus pyogenes, is a gram-positive bacterium that is commonly found on the skin. GAS can cause a range of mild to severe diseases. Mild infections such as strep throat are common in children and are easily treated with antibiotics. More severe invasive infections include necrotizing fasciitis and toxic shock syndrome, which can both be fatal especially if they exist concurrently. Antigen DetailsResearch Area Bacteria .
