DescriptionDescriptionSpecificity Human CD11c Background CD11c (also known as ITGAX) is a member of the leukointegrin family that binds to iC3b, fibrinogen, VCAM-1, ICAM-1, ICAM-2 1, and ICAM-4 2. CD11c is involved in phagocytosis, cell migration, cytokine production by monocytes/macrophages, induction of T cell proliferation by Langerhans cells 1, monocyte adhesion 3, chemotaxis, host defense 4and tissue homeostasis. CD11c combines with ITGB2 (beta 2 chain) to form inactivated-C3b receptor 4 (CR4) 5 and is widely used as a marker for dendritic cells 6.
CD11c expression is significantly higher in patients with gastric cancer than gastritis or gastric polyps, and increases during cancer stage progression, suggesting an involvement in gastric cancer pathology 7. Additionally, CD11c may play a role in the functional mechanism of anti-CD47 cancer immunotherapy 6. CD11c also mediates cell-cell interaction during the inflammatory response 3, and CD11c+ T-bet+ IgM memory cells are generated during bacterial infection and are important for long-term immunity during chronic infections and diseases 8. CD11c is also associated with cognitive decline 9.
The 118/A5 antibody does not cross-react with rhesus macaque CD11c 10.
Antigen Distribution CD11c is expressed on tissue macrophages and dendritic cells. Expression has also been observed on natural killer cells, some activated B and T cells, professional phagocytes, and microglia. CD11c is overexpressed in myeloid- and monocyte-associated dendritic cells.
