Background N-Acetylprocainamide (NAPA) is the N-acetylated metabolite of procainamide. It is a Class III antiarrhythmic agent and only partially as active as procainamide. NAPA is a potassium-channel blocker and binds to potassium channels. The electrophysiologic properties of NAPA are slightly different from those of procainamide, but its antiarrhythmic mechanisms are similar to those of procainamide.
