Background
Oxycodone, a potent opioid analgesic, is widely prescribed for the management of moderate to severe pain with a high potential for physical dependence and addiction. Oxycodone works by binding to various opioid receptors with the strongest affinity for the mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system, exerting analgesic effects and altering the perception of pain. Diagnostic testing for oxycodone misuse or adherence monitoring is commonly conducted through urine tests, which can detect the presence of the drug or its metabolites. However, misuse remains a significant concern, given oxycodone's potential for addiction and dependence.
