Description

Description

Specificity
Mouse Monoclonal Antibody specific to Lipase
Background
Lipase is an esterase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of lipids. Lipases perform essential roles in the digestion, transport and processing of dietary lipids. Most lipases act at a specific position on the glycerol backbone of a lipid substrate. Human pancreatic lipase, which is the main enzyme that breaks down dietary fats in the human digestive system, converts triglyceride substrates found in ingested oils to monoglycerides and two fatty acids.
Function
Plays an important role in fat metabolism. It preferentially splits the esters of long-chain fatty acids at positions 1 and 3, producing mainly 2-monoacylglycerol and free fatty acids, and shows considerably higher activity against insoluble emulsified substrates than against soluble ones. {PubMed:10769148, PubMed:17401110}.
