Description

Specificity
This antibody recognizes human progesterone receptor (PgR), a member of the steroid family of nuclear receptors. PgR is found as a 94 kD protein (Form A) or a 120 kD protein (Form B). Binding of progesterone to its receptor results in a conformational change that allows dimerization and binding of the receptor to progesterone response elements and activated transcription. When bound to DNA, PgR can positively or negatively regulate gene transcription.
Function
The steroid hormones and their receptors are involved in the regulation of eukaryotic gene expression and affect cellular proliferation and differentiation in target tissues. Depending on the isoform, progesterone receptor functions as transcriptional activator or repressor. {PubMed:10757795, PubMed:1587864, PubMed:9407067, PubMed:7969170, PubMed:8180103, PubMed:8264658, PubMed:10757795}.; [Isoform B]: Transcriptional activator of several progesteron-dependent promoters in a variety of cell types. Involved in activation of SRC-dependent MAPK signaling on hormone stimulation. {PubMed:7969170}.; [Isoform 4]: Increases mitochondrial membrane potential and cellular respiration upon stimulation by progesterone.
