Description

Description

Specificity
Clone 5C8 is a mouse monoclonal antibody that targets the human and cynomolgus monkey CD154 (CD40L).
Background
CD154, also known as CD40L, gp39, TRAP, or T BAM is a 39 kDa molecule that plays a vital role in the immune system. It belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) family and is crucial for the interaction between antigen-specific lymphocytes and antigen-presenting cells1,2. By binding to CD40 it assists in the costimulation process required for activating T cells and promoting B cell proliferation. CD40L also stimulates the secretion of immunoglobulin and facilitates Ig isotype switching when it binds to CD40 on B-cells3. Moreover, CD40L regulates cytokine production by T cells4. Due to its involvement in immune responses, this molecule is of significant importance for immunological research and therapeutic interventions5,6.

Clone 5C8 is a mouse monoclonal antibody produced through immunization of BALB/c mice with cells from a mouse myeloma cell line. It specifically recognizes human CD154 and binds to an epitope that differs from the CD40 binding site7,8.
Antigen Distribution
CD154 is primarily expressed on activated T-cells but can also be found in other cell types, including platelets, mast cells, macrophages, basophils, NK cells, B lymphocytes, smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells.
