It does not cross-react with human, mouse, or rat Hsp40. Background Members of the human Hsp40/DnaJ protein family feature a J domain (named for the bacterial DnaJ protein). The J domain spans the first 75 N- terminal amino acids and is separated from the C-terminus by a glycine- phenylalanine-rech domain. The Hsp40/DnaJ proteins play many different roles in cellular processes such as folding, translocation, degradation, and assembly of multi-protein complexes. Hdj1, the first human Hsp40/DnaJ protein identified, plays an important role in protein translation and folding as well as in regulation of Hsp70 function. Hsp40 stimulates ATPase activity of Hsp70 which in turn causes conformational changes in unfolded proteins. Function Probably involved in mitochondrial protein import. Is also required for efficient translocation of pre-pro-alpha-factor. Involved in heme regulation of HAP1, as a component of the high-molecular-weight (HMC) complex. {PubMed:11689685}.
